Jan Hamáček (born November 4, 1978 in Mladá Boleslav ) is a Czech politician, he has been party chairman of the social democratic ČSSD since February 2018 and interior minister and deputy prime minister since June 2018. Hamáček was previously President of the Czech Chamber of Deputies from 2013 to 2017 .

Life

Hamáček studied from 1997 to 2001 at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague , but he did not complete successfully. Between 2001 and 2004 he worked as Secretary General of the Social Democratic Group ( ČSSD ) in the regional parliament of the Central Bohemian Region , from 2004 to 2006 he headed the foreign policy department at the party headquarters of the ČSSD and from 2005 to 2006 advised the Czech Prime Minister on foreign policy issues. From 2002 to 2006 he was chairman of the ČSSD youth association. He has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2006 . In December 2012 he was elected one of the Vice-Presidents of the House of Representatives. After the early elections to the House of Representatives in 2013 , he was elected as the new chairman of the House of Representatives with 195 of 198 votes cast as the successor to Miroslava Němcová . He held this office until 2017.

Since February 18, 2018 he has been party leader of the Czech Social Democrats. After the ČSSD and the ANO 2011 agreed on a joint government Hamáček took effect on 27 June 2018 as first deputy prime minister and interior minister under Andrej Babiš to the Cabinet a. Since President Miloš Zeman rejected the appointment of the ČSSD candidate Miroslav Poche for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hamáček took over this ministry on a provisional basis until Tomáš Petříček was sworn in as the new Foreign Minister in October .

Hamáček is married and has two children.
