The Berliner Studentinnen Lysistrata (VBSt Lysistrata) is a student union in Berlin . The VBSt Lysistrata is colored , politically and denominationally neutral and does not belong to any umbrella organization . It brings together active and former students from Berlin universities and the University of Potsdam.
Principles and ideals
The VBSt Lysistrata is committed to the free and democratic basic order of the Federal Republic of Germany . It is committed to the principle of tolerance , ie the religious, political and ideological freedom of the individual. Any - German or foreign - matriculated or former student who lives in Berlin can become a full member.
The ideals striven for by Lysistrata are " tolerance beyond all contradictions, mutual respect and friendship for life" .
history
The VBSt Lysistrata was founded on July 18, 1985 by seven Berlin students on the corps house of the Corps Teutonia Berlin (WSC) . Thus it represents one of the oldest still active women's associations in Germany.
The name Lysistrata (German roughly 'Die Heereslöserin') is the name of a comedy by the Greek poet Aristophanes . The title figure is the leader of the rebellious women of Athens and Sparta , who join forces to force their warring husbands to make peace. The VBSt Lysistrata is thus one of the few connections in Germany whose name is derived from classical traditions.
The name "Lysistrata" was chosen because Lysistrata was the first female main character in a play. Under her leadership, the women occupy the Acropolis, which at the time was only accessible to men. The name is therefore also symbolic for breaking into a male domain (since the German connection system is traditionally male). The VBSt Lysistrata thus explicitly invokes feminist positions. This is also reflected in the motto "Be a woman, be free" .
With regard to color and events (pubs, Kommersen), the founders were guided by the traditions of the gentlemen's associations. The VBSt Lysistrata, however, like all women's associations, is not decisive .
The VBSt Lysistrata currently resides with the Landsmannschaft Preußen Berlin .
The VBSt Lysistrata celebrated its 30th foundation festival on June 5-7, 2015, making it one of the most traditional among the active women's associations in Germany.
Color
General
The members of the VBSt Lysistrata are referred to as Federal Sister (comparable to boy ) and High Lady (comparable to old man ). You wear the ribbon in the colors red-white-red . The colors are taken from the Berlin flag . The new members are called Fux . You wear the Fuxenband in the colors red and white .
A red cap is worn with the band. For evening wear , the ribbon can be replaced by a ribbon bow in the connecting colors, provided that the ribbon would lie on bare skin.
coat of arms
The colors red-white-red can also be found in the feather decoration of the helmet crown on the coat of arms . The helmet crown itself represents the Brandenburg Gate .
The actual coat of arms consists of a square main shield and a heart shield, which shows the circle of the Lysistrata. The four fields show in detail ( heraldically described ):
- Above right: obliquely left divided the colors red-white-red, the colors of the connection and the city flag of Berlin.
- Top left: an owl over a scroll as a symbol for the goddess Athena , the embodiment of wisdom and erudition.
- Bottom right: Laurel wreath with a ribbon in the federal colors, in it the date of foundation; the number "VII" stands for the seven founders.
- Bottom left: the namesake of the connection, the theater character Lysistrata , in front of the Acropolis .
