activity

The "VCÖ - Mobility with a Future" was founded in 1988 under the name "Verkehrsclub Österreich" and aims to achieve ecologically safe, compatible, economically sensible and socially just mobility. The activities of the association are based on the interests of the “weak in traffic” - that is, children, the elderly, people walking and cycling. He provides decision-makers in politics, administration and business with information he has prepared as a basis for decision-making in order to implement the goals for Austrian transport policy. To this end, the association also develops research initiatives and conducts press work . In addition, as a civil service provider organization, road safety is a particular concern.

Sister organizations of the VCÖ are the Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD) and the Verkehrs-Club der Schweiz (VCS). At the European level, the association works together with the umbrella organization Transport & Environment (T&E).

The VCÖ awards the mobility prize annually together with the Ministry of Transport , the Ministry of Sustainability and the ÖBB . The mobility award honors projects that contribute to a reduction in the number of accidents , less noise and emissions, and less CO 2 pollution. Municipalities , businesses , companies , organizations , clubs and schools can submit .

Since 2001 the VCÖ has been carrying out an annual rail test among the 20 or so rail companies that transport people in Austria. Six to eight rail companies take part in one year, with between 10,000 and 14,000 passengers being asked about their satisfaction with rail traffic in Austria using a questionnaire. The results are made public and those of the current VCÖ rail test can be viewed online.

The organization publishes the magazine “VCÖ Magazin” several times a year, four times a year the series “Mobility with a Future” and numerous “Factsheets”. Studies on mobility are also published regularly by the VCÖ. The "VCÖ" also offers insurance: Liability and legal protection for non-motorized users (including skating), against bicycle theft and a motor vehicle protection pass. The VCÖ is an environmental organization recognized by the Ministry of Sustainability , bears the donation seal of the Chamber of Public Accountants and is mainly financed by donations from (according to its own statements) over 5,000 private individuals.
