The Verlag für die Deutsche Wirtschaft AG (also VNR-Verlag ) is a German specialist publisher for advice , reference works and specialist information based in Bonn - Bad Godesberg . 7 specialist publishers and 3 sister companies are bundled under one roof. The group currently sells 323 printed specialist information services and electronic products.

history

The publishing house for the German economy AG is a member of the Rentrop publishing group. He employs 409 people in Bonn as well as freelance authors and reviewers. In 2016, the AG and its sister publisher FID Verlag GmbH achieved a turnover of 130 million euros (previous year: 123 million euros). The publisher is loud buchreport ranking the ninth largest publishing house in Germany, among the publishers overall he is ranked 12th Norman Rentrop the company had established in October 1975 as publisher Norman Rentrop.

In May 1976, the first edition of the magazine Die Geschäftsidee appeared with business concepts for start-ups. In 1977 the publisher is entered in the commercial register under A2790. Presse Service Bonn GmbH & Co. KG takes care of the publisher's subscribers and also offers the services to other specialist publishers outside the group of companies. In 1996 the third subsidiary, FID Fachverlag für Informationsdienste GmbH - was founded as an e. V. active - founded. In 1997 the publisher entered new territory with the first mail order congress. He expands his offer to specialist congresses. There is also a joint venture in Poland through the establishment of Wydawnictwo Wiedza i Praktyka in Warsaw. The first electronic product is launched - the Taipan Trader. The publishing house for Deutsche Wirtschaft AG was founded in 1999 in the transition from owner to management-run company. The publishing director is Helmut Graf. Together with the sister companies FID Verlag GmbH and Prisma Werbeagentur GmbH and Presse Service Bonn GmbH & Co. KG, they form the Rentrop publishing group.

In 2003 the publishing house participates through joint ventures in Great Britain under the name Agora Business Publications and France. The publisher starts with three computer titles each. The publisher issues licenses in South Africa. The publishing house was founded in 2004 by the Association of Magazine Publishers in NRW e. V. honored as a prizewinner for trend-setting, innovative developments of the brand "simplify". From 2003 to 2004 32 new products will be launched on the market. In total, the publishing house publishes more than 300 printed specialist information services. In 2005, the board of directors Helmut Graf was elected as the first German publisher to the “Board of Directors” of the American “Specialized Information Publishers Association” (SIPA). According to IHK Bonn / Rhein-Sieg, the publishing house (Verlagsgruppe Rentrop) is one of the 30 largest private employers in the region in 2010.

In 2014, Guido Ems joined the publishing company as the second member of the board at the side of board colleague Helmut Graf. In April 2016, Frederik Palm was appointed as a new board member and chief operating officer. At the end of April 2016, the publisher took over the English company Agora Business Publications LLP, thus continuing its internationalization and growth course. Richard Rentrop, son of the founder, has been leading the publishing group since October 2017. The previous board members Ems and Palm were dismissed and Helmut Graf's contract expired at the end of 2017.

The areas of PPM PRO Care Management Verlag & Akademie, Verlag PRO Kita, Verlag PRO Schule, Verlag PRO Sozial and Orgenda are aimed at those responsible in the management of public and social institutions. The PraxisCampus & OfficeSeminare publishing house offers courses and correspondence courses on the topics of office and secretarial services, as well as seminars and e-learning courses in the areas of occupational safety, data protection, works council, purchasing, quality management, health management, human resources, training, communication and office management. From consumer protection circles , criticism of the rigid type of customer loyalty of the publishing house Norman Rentrop has repeatedly been loud. The publisher was accused u. a. In spring 2020, the church union filed a criminal complaint with the public prosecutor's office against Bibel TV for preventing a works council election (Section 119 BetrVG). Two works council initiators had previously been dismissed in December 2019. The Rentrop Foundation is the main shareholder of Bibel TV with 52% of the shares.
