history
The VR Bank Ostholstein Nord - Plön eG was founded on March 4, 1860 by Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch as an advance payment association based on the model of the credit cooperatives in Neustadt in Holstein. 88 respected citizens of Neustadt came together for the first time in this form. The Neustädter Wochenblatt reported in detail 5 days later: “In the evening meeting of the local craftsmen's association held last Sunday, the draft of a statute for an advance association to be established here was discussed and accepted by those present with a few changes. The purpose of the association is mainly to provide small and medium-sized businesses with the funds they need to run their business and thus to remedy an urgent need. In order to be able to take an advance from the association's treasury, the person seeking the advance must be a member of the association. This membership is acquired through a committee decision and a contribution to the reserve fund of 1 thaler, as well as through the deposit of a regular share of 25 thalers in weekly contributions of 4 to 16 silver groschen or once and for all by acknowledging and signing the statute. Any surpluses will be distributed among the association members as dividends. "
As early as 1882, the general assembly of the members decided to revise the statute. The name was changed to the advance and savings association in Neustadt and the cooperative was officially registered. Business was done in "business premises". For years, the E. Scheel company building in Fischerstrasse functioned as such, until in 1888 business activities were relocated to the house of board member Martin Giese in Kremper Strasse.
As a result, savings and loan funds or Raiffeisen banks were founded in many places until the 1950s. Due to the increased demands on the individual bank, there were always mergers that concentrated in Ostholstein on the Fehmarnsche Volksbank Raiffeisenbank eG and the Volksbank von 1860 eG. The two institutes then merged in 2000 to form Volksbank Ostholstein Nord eG and thus dissolved the dual presence in Heiligenhafen.
The development in the Plön district took a similar course. The cooperative banks spread across the area merged in the northwest to form Raiffeisenbank Schönberg eG, in the east and south of the district to form Raiffeisenbank im Kreis Plön eG, which was founded in 1896 as the Lütjenburg savings and loan fund. Both banks merged in 1991 to form Raiffeisenbank in the district of Plön eG, Lütjenburg.
In 2009 Volksbank Ostholstein Nord eG and Raiffeisenbank in the district of Plön eG merged to form today's VR Bank Ostholstein Nord - Plön eG.
