Vae Victis Germany , or Vae Victis , is a German right-wing rock band from Köthen (Anhalt) .

Band history

Vae Victis were founded in Koethen in 2000. The band name refers to the Latin expression Vae victis ( Latin for woe to the vanquished ) and, according to the band, refers to the German people who, according to the group, had to pay “so painfully and bitterly in the last few centuries” like no other People. The addition Germany was added to distinguish itself from a RAC band from France of the same name . There is also a Black Metal group from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and several demo bands with the same name.

The first album In the Sign of the New Twilight (2003) contained the song Adolf in praise of Adolf Hitler and called for racial hatred in the song Rassenkrieg . Since both songs are criminally relevant in Germany according to § 130 StGB (" sedition "), the album was published via Imperium Records (USA). It contained a warning on the back:

“This CD was made in the USA for distribution only there! Possession or distribution of this CD outside of the USA may be a criminal offense! "

- Back of the CD

Despite the notice, it still got to Germany through various distributors and the album was indexed on April 30, 2004 .

The second album We want to be free was released in 2005 on the right-wing rock label Barbarossa Records. The group had to rewrite its texts for the German market and is now less obviously indulging in the National Socialist ideology.

On August 4, 2007 Vae Victis performed in front of about 300 people at the NPD's summer festival in Sangerhausen . The group also played on the Thuringian National Youth Day 2007 in Eisenach , which was also organized by the NPD.

The group is currently on pause due to a break from guitarist Sebastian Dankowski.

ideology

The group integrates ideological National Socialist trains of thought (especially on the first album) and the popular concept of the New Right . The only two known members of the group, Andreas Reiche and Sebastian Dankowski, are involved in the NPD district association of Anhalt. Reiche was elected chairman in 2001, at which time Dankowski was the assessor and webmaster of the district association's website. Dankowski was a long-time management cadre of the Free Comradeship Koethen. Even today, after the end of most of the NPD activities of its members, both are again involved in the comradeship of the Free Nationalists Köthen and in the anti-anti-fascist organization Action Office Center . Both organized numerous neo-Nazi demonstrations.
