Valery Demory
Valéry Demory (born September 13, 1963 in Denain ) is a former French basketball coach and former player.
career
The 1.78 meter tall player moved from his hometown club AS Denain-Voltaire to the first division club Stade Français Basket in Paris in 1982 . There he stayed for a year, from 1983 to 1987 he was under contract with Challans, 1987 to 1989 with Cholet Basket and from 1989 to 1991 with CSP Limoges . With Limoges he was French champion in 1990, Demory contributed to the success in the 1989/90 season on average 8.5 points and 6.7 basket assists. In the same game year he reached the semifinals of the European Cup with Limoges . There they were eliminated, but won the game for third place.
He left Limoges in 1991 and joined arch-rival Pau-Orthez . With the team he won the championship title in 1992, Demory came this season to averages of 10.2 points and 5 templates. In 1994 he moved from Pau-Orthez back to Cholet and stayed there until 1997. From 1997 to 2000, Demory, who was particularly characterized by his speed, his understanding of the game and his skills as a template provider, strengthened the ALM Évreux team . In 1988, 1989 and 1990 Maxi-Basket magazine recognized him as the best French player in the league.
With France's national team he took part in the 1986 World Cup and the European Championships in 1985, 1987 and 1991.
He worked as a trainer in Évreux (2000/01), then in Mourenx (2001 to 2007). Between 2007 and 2017, the women of Lattes-Montpellier advanced to the top of France under his direction as coach, won the French championship in 2014 and 2016 and the cup competition in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2016. In 2017 he became the coach of the women at Lyon Basket (later renamed ASVEL Féminin). He led Lyon to win the French championship title in 2019. In 2011 and 2019 Demory was named Coach of the Year in the French women's first division.
