Valcheta is the capital of the Valcheta department in the Río Negro province in southern Argentina . The place can be reached from the east and west via the Ruta Nacional 23 and the SEFEPA railway and from the north via the Ruta Provincial 4 .

geography

Valcheta is located in the middle of the Patagonian plateau in a valley through which the Arroyo Valcheta flows. The valley is a fertile, climate-favored oasis with varied vegetation from forests to orchards and alfalfa fields.

climate

The climate is moderately cool with little rainfall. The annual rainfall is around 200 millimeters. The average temperature in January is around 21  ° C and in July around 5 ° C.

history

The arrival of General Juan Manuel de Rosas during the desert campaign on June 19, 1889 is considered to be the discovery of Valcheta . October 5, 1869 is celebrated as the founding date of the place .
