Valentin heirs
Valentin Erben (* 1945 in Vienna ) is an Austrian cellist and university professor .
Life
After studying with Paul Freidel and Walter Reichardt, later with Tobias Kühne in Vienna and with André Navarra in Paris, Valentin Erben was a founding member of the Alban Berg Quartet in 1970 , of which he was a member until its dissolution in 2008. A solo career as a cellist followed. This resulted in collaboration with actors, dancers and composers, including Johanna Doderer .
Valentin Erben has been teaching at the Vienna University of Music since 1971 . Since 1993 he has been a visiting professor for chamber music at the Cologne University of Music . He also holds masterclasses at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena and at the “ProQuartet” in Paris, at the Mendelssohn Summer School in Hamburg and at the Reina Sofia School of Music in Madrid. Erben is also a regular guest at the Heidelberger Frühling , where he also holds workshops. He also directs the annual Les Musicales d'Orient festival .
