In 2016 a new four without a helmsman formed. In addition to Valentin Onfroy, Benjamin Lang moved from last year eighth , Mickaël Marteau from the scullers and Valentin's brother Théophile Onfroy from the lightweight rowers. This newly put together foursome won the bronze medal at the European Championships in early May 2016 . Shortly thereafter, the four qualified in Lucerne for participation in the Olympic Games, where the French rowed to eleventh place. At the European Championships 2017, the Italians Matteo Lodo and Giuseppe Vicino won in two without a helmsman, ahead of the French Valentin and Théophile Onfroy. A year later, the Onfroy brothers also won silver at the European Championships , this time behind the Croatian brothers Martin and Valent Sinković . A month and a half later at the World Championships in Plovdiv, the Croatians won ahead of the Romanian two and the Onfroys.
