Théophile Onfroy

Théophile Onfroy (born December 29, 1992 in Verdun ) is a French rower who was active as a lightweight rower until 2015 and switched to rowers without weight restrictions in 2016.

Athletic career

Théophile Onfroy started rowing in 2005. At the U23 World Championships in 2012 and 2013 he won the bronze medal in the lightweight foursome without a helmsman . In 2014 he competed with Clément Duret in the lightweight two-man without a helmsman and finished fourth at the European Championships . At the 2014 World Championships , Duret and Onfroy rowed together with Guillaume Raineau and Franck Solforosi in the lightweight four-man without a helmsman and achieved fourth place. In 2015 Théophile Onfroy competed with Augustin Mouterde in the lightweight two-man without a helmsman, at the European Championships the two won the silver medal behind the British Joel Cassells and Peter Chambers . At the 2015 World Championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette, Joel Cassells and Sam Scrimgeour won ahead of Mouterde and Onfroy.

In 2016, Théophile Onfroy competed with Mickaël Marteau , Benjamin Lang and his brother Valentin Onfroy in a four without a helmsman and won the bronze medal at the European Championships . Shortly thereafter, the four qualified in Lucerne for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where the French rowed to eleventh place. At the European Championships 2017, the Italians Matteo Lodo and Giuseppe Vicino won in two without a helmsman, ahead of the French Valentin and Théophile Onfroy. A year later, the Onfroy brothers also won silver at the European Championships , this time behind the Croatian brothers Martin and Valent Sinković . A month and a half later at the World Championships in Plovdiv, the Croatians won ahead of the Romanian two and the Onfroys.
