life and work

First printing of the Annales Styrenses , Nuremberg 1740

Preuenhueber comes from obersteirischem Gender and studied probably in Graz . From the first decade of the 17th century he was an official of the city of Steyr and from 1625 secretary of the Innerberg main trade union . From this point on, he probably worked on his city chronicle, for which he used sources from the city registry and from monastery and aristocratic archives. In the course of the Counter Reformation , the Protestant Preuenhueber had to leave Austria in 1629 and moved to Regensburg . There he published the font Castrum Styrense in 1631 . The exact time of his return to Austria is unknown, but he was from 1635 until his death in 1642Salburg regent and head nurse in Salaberg near Haag. He was buried in Haag on April 7, 1642. In 1643, Preuenhueber's widow Ursula gave the city of Steyr the manuscript of the Annales Styrenses for copying, for which she was promised repayment of a capital of 841 guilders. It remains unclear whether this is a loan or a purchase price . After a resolution of December 9, 1654, the city returned the original manuscript to the Preuenhueber family after eleven years. Then it ended up in the library of Count Johann Joachim zu Windhag . The work was not printed in Nuremberg until 1740 .

The Preuenhueber family (Prevenhueber) settled in Weyer and Steyr at the end of the 16th century . The Prevenhueberhaus (second half of the 16th century) , built in the late Gothic style, still stands at Marktplatz 6 in Weyer . The Renaissance portal dates from 1642, the paintings of a double-headed eagle at the gate from around 1800.
