Valentin Rose the Elder
Valentin Rose the Elder (born August 16, 1736 in Neuruppin , † April 28, 1771 in Berlin ) was a German pharmacist , metallurgist , chemist and assessor of the medical college in Berlin. He came from a family of merchants and scholars from the Brandenburg region .
In 1761 Rose bought the pharmacy “ Zum Weißen Schwan ” in Berlin , where the later chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth in 1770 became his apprentice. The pharmacy was at Spandauer Strasse 77, at the corner of Heidereutergasse. The son Valentin Rose the Younger continued to run the pharmacy after his death. Rose is the discoverer of Rose's metal , an alloy named after him with a low melting temperature .
