Valentin Samungi

Valentin Samungi (born January 27, 1942 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian handball player , coach and sports official.

Life

Samungi first played as a goalkeeper for CSS Bucharest from 1958. He then was a defender at Dinamo Bucharest from 1966 to 1977 . In the years from 1961 to 1973 he played 113 international matches for the Romanian national team, in which he scored 134 goals. In 1967 he won third place with the team at the handball world championship in Sweden and in 1970 won the world championship title with the team at the handball world championship in France . Two years later he won a bronze medal with the team at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 .

From 1977 he coached, among other things, the youth national team. In 1991 he became an advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and in 1996 Vice President of Dinamo Bucharest. From 1995 to 1996 he was Chairman of the Romanian Handball Federation and from 1999 to 2000 General Secretary of the Federația Română de Handbal (FRH).

Honors

  • In 1970 Samungi received the title of Honored Master of Sport (Maestru Emerit al Sportului).
  • In 2000 he was awarded the “Serviciul Credincios” clasa I medal.
