Valentin Schmidt (lawyer)

Valentin Schmidt (born February 18, 1941 ) is a German lawyer . From 1997 to 2006 he was President of the Church Office of the EKD .

Career

After studying law in Göttingen, Valentin Schmidt was an advisor to the city director in Hanover from 1971 to 1973 . From 1973 to 1985 Schmidt was head of the legal office of the state capital Hanover, then from 1985 to 1992 head of the main office. In 1992 he became the association director of the municipal association of Greater Hanover and managing director of public companies in the transport and supply industry. On March 1, 1997, the EKD Council was appointed President of the EKD Church Office. In addition, Valentin Schmidt was a voluntary sports representative of the EKD Council until 2010 and was a member of the EKD Synod for twelve years. From 1993 to 1998 Schmidt was President of the Regional Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Hanover . Schmidt has been on the board of the International Martin Luther Foundation since 2007 . He has been a member of the Hannoversche Sportverein from 1896 since 1962 and its chairman since April 2007. He is also chairman of the board of trustees of the monastery chamber of Hanover.
