Valentin Thilo the Elder
Valentin Thilo the Elder (born January 2, 1579 in Zinten , today Kornewo, † 1620 in Königsberg ) was a Lutheran theologian and hymn poet.
In 1603 Thilo became pastor in Preussisch Eylau and in the same year a deacon at the old town church in Königsberg. In 1620 he died of the plague at the same time as his wife, a daughter of the professor of morality and history in Königsberg, Andreas Iris .
Like his son of the same name, Valentin Thilo the Younger , Thilo was active as a poet of hymns. For some, such as the Advent song Mit Ernst, o Menschenkinder ( EG 10), it is still unclear whether the author is the father or the son.
