Etienne Renaudin (born February 26, 1843 in Sceaux , Hauts-de-Seine ; † March 4, 1907 in Paris ), better known by his stage name Valentin le Désossé (Valentine the Boneless ), was a celebrated acrobat and dancer of the Paris Cancan - Milieus.

The son of a lawyer first settled down as a wine merchant in rue Coquillière in the Hallenviertel, after an expropriation procedure he became an employee in his brother's notary's office and finally lived off renting out several apartments (rue de la Motte-Piquet).

Renaudin was a passionate dancer. During the day he led the life of a respected citizen, in the evening he was drawn across Paris to the dance halls of Montparnasse and Montmartre . For his amusement, he performed as a snake man at Tivoli Vauxhall and worked as " ballet master " at Valentino at Bal Mabille and at Elysée-Montmartre .

Toulouse-Lautrec: Ball in the Moulin Rouge (1895). La Goulue and Valentin le Désossé

At the Bal Bullier on Montparnasse, he made the acquaintance of the can-can dancer La Goulue, who was more than twenty years his junior . At her side he celebrated the audience in the Great Exhibition of 1889 opened Bal du Moulin Rouge . Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec portrayed the dancing couple several times, including in 1895 for the famous poster of the Moulin Rouge. The very skinny and tall artist, in his black frock coat and battered top hat, gave the impression of a starved artist who could have been laughed at because of his appearance. But in the Moulin-Rouge, the quadrille dancers carried the now over 50-year-old triumphantly across the stage evening after evening.

He was also a keen rider, whom Toulouse-Lautrec often met early in the morning in the Bois de Boulogne .
