Valentine is a town in Jeff Davis County in the US state of Texas . In 2000 Valentine had 187 inhabitants on an area of ​​1.2 km². The village is on the border with Presidio County and is affected by US Highway 90 .

Valentine was founded on February 14, 1882 by workers of the Southern Pacific Railroad and named after the day it was founded, Valentine's Day . From 1883 Valentine was a stopping point for the railroad, and in 1886 a post office was opened. In 1890 Valentine had about 100 inhabitants, the place included two restaurants, a hotel and a meat market. In the following period, Valentine developed into a loading station for the surrounding ranchers, and the population rose to 500 by 1914, decreased to 250 in the early 1920s and reached 629 in the early 1930s. On August 16, 1931 an earthquake, the strongest, destroyed the in Texas it was measured, large parts of the place. At the end of the 1970s the place had 226 inhabitants, in 1990 217 and in 2000 187 inhabitants. There is a primary and a secondary school and two churches in the village.
