Valentino Cottini

Valentino Cottini (* 1951 ) is a Roman Catholic theologian , orientalist and Islamic scholar .

Life

PISAI

Valentino Cottini studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Rome and Jerusalem. After pastoral work in the diocese of Verona , he completed a doctorate at the Biblicum Franciscanum in Jerusalem with a focus on biblical studies and was awarded a doctorate in theology. He has held a professorship in Muslim theology, a subject in Islamic studies , at the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI) since 2005 . He has also been a professor at the Pontifical Academy Alfonsiana since 2007 and at the Pontifical Urban University since 2011 . He is editor of the journal Islamochristiana .

On September 4, 2012, he was appointed Rector of the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI) by Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski , Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education , to succeed Miguel Ayuso Guixot MCCJ .
