Miguel Ayuso Guixot
Miguel Ángel Cardinal Ayuso Guixot , MCCJ (born June 17, 1952 in Seville , Spain ) is a Spanish religious , theologian , orientalist and Islamic scholar . He has been President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue and Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church since 2019 .
Life
Miguel Ayuso Guixot joined the Congregation of the Comboni Missionaries in and put on 2 May 1980 at los Instituto de Misioneros Combonianos del Corazón de Jesús the profession from. After studying philosophy and theology, he was ordained a priest on September 20, 1980 . Ayuso studied Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI; diploma 1982) and was in 2000 at the Theological Faculty of Granada ( Facultad de Teología de Granada ) in dogmatic theology to a doctor of theology doctorate .
From 1982 to 2002 he was a missionary in Sudan and Egypt. During this time Ayuso Guixot was also professor of Islamic studies at the interdiocesan seminary of St. Paul in Khartoum (Sudan) (1987-1993) and at the training center for teachers of Christian religions in Khartoum (1991-1994). He was also Professor of Arabic at the Dar Comboni Center for Arabic Studies in Cairo (1997-2002), which is run by the Order of Comboni Missionaries. Ayuso Guixot has been teaching Islamic studies and dogmatic theology at PISAI since 2002 and was its director of studies from 2003 to 2006.
In 2006 he succeeded Justo Lacunza SMA as President of the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI) . He was followed in 2012 by Valentino Cottini .
On June 30, 2012 he was received by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue . He replaced Curia Archbishop Pier Luigi Celata . Pope Francis confirmed Miguel Ayuso Guixot in office.
Pope Francis appointed him titular bishop of Luperciana on January 29, 2016 . The Pope personally donated his episcopal ordination on March 19 of the same year. Co-consecrators were Archbishop Giovanni Angelo Becciu and Cardinal Fernando Filoni .
On May 25, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue. Ayuso chaired the interfaith dialogue in countries such as Egypt, Sudan, Kenya, Ethiopia and Mozambique. He speaks Spanish, Arabic, French, English and Italian.
On September 1, 2019, Pope Francis announced that he would be accepted into the college of cardinals as a cardinal deacon in the consistory of October 5, 2019 . At the creation of the cardinal, the Pope assigned him the title diaconia of San Girolamo della Carità on October 5, 2019 . The occupation of his title diakonia took place on February 8 of the following year. On February 21, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches .
