The Palm Pre (stylized spelling palm prē , English pronounced [ pri ]) is a smartphone from HP Palm with a touchscreen and an extending thumb keyboard. It is the first mobile phone from Palm with the new, self-developed and Linux- based operating system HP webOS .

Launch

The smartphone and the webOS operating system used were presented to the public for the first time on January 8, 2009 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and received a very positive response from the professional world: It won both the Best of CES 2009 Award and the People's Voice at the trade fair Award .

The CDMA version was launched in the USA on June 6, 2009. The US exclusive partner is the nationwide network operator Sprint Nextel .

At the Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona , the world's largest trade fair for mobile communications , Palm also presented a GSM and UMTS- compatible version on February 17, 2009 .

The first sales partner in Germany was O 2 , where the Palm Pre was offered since October 13, 2009.

In January 2010, the Palm Pre Plus version was presented at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The differences to the "normal" version lie in a slightly changed design, improved processing and double the storage capacity (RAM, internal memory). The Plus version has been available in Germany since April 28, 2010. August 2010, O 2 decided to phase out the sale of the basic version and only offer the new Pre +.

An OMAP 3430 System-on-a-Chip from Texas Instruments u. a. Consists of a 600 MHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU (downclocked to 500 MHz), a PowerVR SGX 530 graphics processor , a 430 MHz C64x + digital signal processor and an ISP (Image Signal Processor). 256 MB RAM are used as main memory ; An eight GB internal flash memory , which cannot be expanded, is available for data .

The Pre has a brightness sensor that regulates the display and keyboard lighting depending on the ambient light. In addition, a proximity sensor ensures that the display is switched off when you hold the phone to your ear.

An integrated digital camera with a maximum resolution of three megapixels and an LED flash is built into the device . The camera only has a fixed focus. Videos can also be recorded.

A micro-USB connection, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR with A2DP and Wi-Fi 802.11b / g are available as interfaces . The smartphone has an integrated GPS receiver and supports AGPS .

In Europe, the Palm Pre and Palm Pre + were offered as GSM (quad-band) / UMTS (dual-band) versions, while both a CDMA device (Sprint, Verizon) and a GSM device (AT&T) were available on the US market .

Touchstone charging station - allows charging without connecting a cable to the device

The Pre's battery has a capacity of 1,150 mAh. Palm states a standby time of 200 hours and talk time of 5 hours. These values apply to both UMTS and GSM.
