Valle San Giovanni is a fraction of the Italian municipality of Teramo in the province of Teramo , Abruzzo region .
geography
The place is about 10 km southwest of the city of Teramo on the orographic right side of the valley of the same name through which the Tordino flows at 460 m slm. The Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso are each 25 km away.
Surname
The name of the place is probably due to a family name of Teramo ("Di Valle"). Another possibility of origin is the name of an old church in the region ("San Giovanni in Pergullis"). The inhabitants of Valle San Giovanni are called "Vallaroli".
Attractions
The parish church of Madonna della Neve is located in the center of Valle San Giovanni and was named after the Madonna della Neve (Our Lady in the Snow). The church dates back to 1458. Every year in August, a summer festival is organized in Valle San Giovanni.
In a very strong wave of emigration around 1900, many residents emigrated to the USA and Canada.
