Valley Stream State Park is a state park on Long Island , New York State , just 3.5 km from John F. Kennedy International Airport . It extends over 97 acres (0.39 square kilometers) in the residential Valley Stream in Nassau County .

The state park is located in a densely populated area, in close proximity to several elementary and secondary schools ( Howell Road School , Valley Stream Public Schools , James A Dever School , Wheeler Avenue School , Memorial Junior High School ). The Southern State Parkway limits the park to the north and separates it from Howell Road School . The park follows the course of the Valley Stream , which crosses the park on the south-west border from north to south-east and on the banks of which there are further municipal parks to the confluence with the Head of Bay ( Arthur J. Hendrickson Park , Village Green Park , Edward W. Cahill Memorial Park , Brook Road Park , Hook Creek Wildlife Sanctuary , North Woodmere Park ). The park is one of three state parks in the Town of Hempstead . Together with Hempstead Lake State Park , it serves as a feeder reservoir for the Ridgewood Reservoir .

The Valley Stream State Park is a recreation destination that is easy on the Southern State Parkway can be reached (exit 15A). There is a nature trail, the possibility of sledding and skiing, playgrounds and sports fields and picnic areas with fire pits and grills.

The State Park is one of the projects that Robert Moses initiated.
