Verona Beach State Park is a 1,735 acre (702 hectare ) state park in the municipality of Verona in Oneida County , New York .

The park is located on the east bank of Oneida Lake on NY 13 northwest of the city of Oneida and south of Sylvan Beach . The Oneida Creek flows south of the park in Oneida Lake. It forms the border with Lenox (New York) in Madison County (New York) at the southern tip of the park . Several wetlands make the park an important nature reserve and a varied local recreation area.

history

Most of the area was privately owned until 1940 and was known as Nabor's Grove . The owner looked after the large trees and thereby contributed a lot to shaping today's forest to the state in which it is today. New York State acquired the site in the early 1940s and established what is now the park in 1944.

By 1962, 59 lots had been purchased for a total of 1355 acres (5 km²) for $ 276,300. The remaining land, which was acquired in 1969-70, cost another $ 288,888 ($ 166 per acre).

The park is administered by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (Central Region).

The park offers a 1.2 km (3/4 mile) long bathing beach, a bath house and kiosk, an enclosed picnic pavilion and three other picnic huts. There are also 46 parking spaces on the campsite. 6.4 km (4 mi) of hiking trails and a further 13 km of riding and mountain bike trails that can be used for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in winter are available. Hunting and fishing are also allowed.

In 2013 an amount of $ 4.3 million was approved to renovate and expand the park's facilities.

There are around 35 seasonal park employees. There is an entrance fee per vehicle and the beach is guarded from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the season.
