Van Foreest

Van Foreest is the gender name of an ancient noble family from the former county of Holland . It was first mentioned with the noblewoman Machteld van Foreest on July 27, 1250 . The latter is referred to as the widow of W. de Foresto as early as 1241 . The family is one of the few originally noble families in Holland who have not yet died out. In the 13th century the first family members can be found under the name De Foresto in the area around Aachen .

The Van Foreest family on the Rhine had their original possessions between the cities of Alphen aan den Rijn and Gouda , where they owned the Ambachtsherrschaft von Middelburg , Spoelwijk , Nieuwerkoop and Foreest . The family members lived in Burg Foreest , Groot Poelgeest , Klein Poelgeest and Den Toll . At the end of the 14th century various members of the family embarked on urban administrative careers. This led them mainly to the cities of Delft , Haarlem , Alkmaar and Hoorn , where they were counted among the influential regents patriciate . Other family members were in turn as councilors in the High Council of Holland, Zeeland and West Friesland - the Hof van Holland , as councilors of the states of Holland and West Friesland , in the trading companies VOC and WIC , in the Admiralty of Holland , in the Grafelijkrekenkamer (a kind of finance ministry ) and active in dike management. In 1814, the family with the nobility title Jonkheer was introduced into the new Dutch nobility.
