The Van Winkle Creek is a stream in Grays Harbor County , the State of Washington . Historically also known as the Ellick Slough , the watercourse rises about four kilometers northeast of the city of Aberdeen and flows first in an easterly, then in a southerly direction. After a good five kilometers, it is dammed together with a few smaller streams to Lake Aberdeen . About a kilometer below the reservoir, the Van Winkle Creek flows into the Elliott Slough , an estuary of the Chehalis River .
