Vanessa Lapa is an Israeli journalist and documentary film - director . She is best known for her documentaries The Decent and Speer Goes to Hollywood , which deal with the crimes of National Socialism based on original documents .

Vanessa Lapa grew up in Belgium . She has lived in Israel since 1995 , where she worked as a journalist for over a hundred reports for Israeli television. In 2007, she founded Realworks Ltd., a Tel Aviv- based production company for documentaries.

In 2009 she published the documentary Olmert - Concealed Documentary about the former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert .

Her first full-length documentary The Decent celebrated its world premiere in 2014 at the Berlin International Film Festival . Lapa's family came into possession of previously unpublished diaries, photos and letters from the former Reichsführer SS , Heinrich Himmler , through Chaim Rosenthal's son . Lapa's documentary tells the life story of the NSDAP politician and mass murderer Heinrich Himmler using only these authentic documents and dispenses with historian interviews or explanatory comments.

In 2020 she was again represented at the Berlin International Film Festival with her documentary Speer Goes to Hollywood . This film is also based on original documents: in 1971 the English screenwriter Andrew Birkin had numerous conversations with Albert Speer , whose bestseller Memory Paramount Pictures wanted to film. According to the German cinema distributor, the film tells of “Speer's attempt to wash himself clean in 1971 with a film adaptation of his 'memories'” .
