The Vannellida are a group of amoeba-like protozoa and belong to the Amoebozoa .
features
When moving, the amoeba have a flattened, fan-like to spatula-like shape. Real pseudopods or subpseudopods do not occur, the front hyaloplasm extends up to half of the cell. The rearward granuloplasm is concentrated in a kind of “hump” that can extend beyond the substrate.
The cell envelope is structured differently: a layer of hexagonal, prismatic structures in Platyamoeba , short glycostyls (complex, flexible structures on the cell surface) in Clydonella and Lingulamoeba . In Vannella is pentagonal Glykostyle with or without simple filaments found. At least one taxon forms sporocarp and is protosteloid, so it resembles members of the genus Protostelium .
Systematics
The Vannellida contain the following genera:
- Clydonella
- Lingulamoeba
- Pessonella
- Platyamoeba
- Vannella
- Ripella
- Protosteliopsis with only one species
Some genera are incertae sedis within the group:
