The rhino screw ( Vasum rhinoceros ) is a snail from the family of turbinellidae (genus Vasum ), which in the Indian Ocean on the coast of East Africa is widespread. It feeds mainly on polychaetes .

features

The shell of Vasum rhinoceros , which is about 7 cm in size in fully grown snails, has a raised thread, the circumferences of which on the shoulder are sculpted with a spiral series of massive knots. The case mouth is serrated and the spindle has three individual folds. The surface of the shell is light brown with circular white lines, the inside of the case mouth is white. The spindle is rich reddish brown with pale yellow edges, the outer lip of the case mouth is yellow to cream-colored. In juveniles, the spindle has only brown bands and the outer lip has black-brown edges.

Distribution and occurrence

Vasum rhinoceros lives on the coasts of Zanzibar ( Tanzania ) and Kenya on muddy substrates.
