Vaughan Smith

Henry Vaughan Lockhart Smith (born July 22, 1963 ) is an English journalist . He served as an officer in the British Army in Northern Ireland , Cyprus and Germany . In the 1990s he worked as an independent cameraman and crisis reporter in Iraq , Afghanistan , Bosnia , Chechnya and Kosovo, among others . Smith posed as an officer in the British Army during the 1991 Gulf War in order to be able to make uncensored reports. Smith was shot twice but survived with minor injuries. When he was filming Serbian military actions in Prekaz in April 1998 , a bullet got stuck in his mobile phone .

Smith founded the Frontline Club in London in 2003 to support independent journalism. From late 2010 to 2012, Smith hosted Julian Assange , the founder of WikiLeaks , first in his Frontline Club and then in his country estate. He put 20,000 pounds sterling a portion of the deposit that Assange had deposited to leave the detention.
