The Veľký Javorník is located about 2 kilometers northeast of Podjavorník , a district of Papradno , and around 10 kilometers southwest of Makov in Slovakia , 800 meters from the Czech border.

There are several hiking trails that lead from Papradno , its district Podjavorník and from Makov to Veľký Javorník .
Nature reserve
On the north-eastern slope of the mountain lies the nature reserve of the same name, the oldest nature reserve in the Slovakian region of Kysuce .
