Mehmet Vedat Tek (* 1873 in Constantinople , † 1942 in Istanbul ) was an important Turkish architect .

Life

Tek was born in 1873 to the governor of the Vilâyet Baghdad , Giritli Sırrı Pasha , and the composer Leylâ Saz . He attended the renowned Galatasaray High School in Istanbul and the École Nonge in Paris. He studied engineering and architecture at the Académie Julian , the École Centrale Paris and the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris .

Back in the Ottoman Empire (1897) he advanced with Mimar Kemaleddin to become the most important representative of the First National Architectural Movement. Tek worked as an architect for state agencies and ministries in Istanbul and taught at the art academy (as the first Turk) and the engineering school . Most recently he worked in the new capital, Ankara. As an architect, he was responsible for the construction of the Ankara Palas , but rejected the responsible foundation office and was only involved in the construction of the foundations.

He was married and had three children.
