Vejas Gabriel Liulevicius

Vejas Gabriel Liulevicius (born 1966 in Chicago ) is an American modern historian.

Life

Vejas Gabriel Liulevicius studied history and specialized in recent German history and Eastern Europe. He was a DAAD scholarship holder in 1991/92. He received his doctorate in 1994 with the dissertation War land: peoples, lands, and national identity on the Eastern front in World War I at the University of Pennsylvania . He has taught at the University of Tennessee since 1995 , where he became an Associate Professor of History and Professor. Since 2008 he has been director of the Center for the Study of War and Society (CSWS).

In addition to his two books, he has also published a number of essays in German magazines and edited volumes on the subject of the Eastern Front in World War I and current political issues in Eastern Europe. He has been invited to speak at meetings of the American Historical Association , at the 2004 Historians' Day, and at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS).
