The Velchev Rock (also known as Krum Rock ; Bulgarian Крумов камък Krumow kamak ) is a 208 m high nunatak in the eastern part of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It rises on the southwestern edge of the Balkan snowfield immediately north of the Contell Glacier and 1.22 km southeast of Sinemorets Hill . Only in the summer months is an area of 0.3 hectares on its northern slope not covered in snow.
The nunatak is named after the Bulgarian meteorologist Krum A. Weltschew (* 1954), who worked in three Antarctic summer seasons between 1993 and 1996 at the nearby St. Kliment-Ohridski station .
