Map of the Tangra Mountains |
The Tangra Mountains ( Bulgarian Тангра Планина Tangra Planina ) are a mountain range in the eastern part of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . With a length of 30 km in the west-southwest-east-northeast extension and a width of 7 km, it lies between Barnard Point and Renier Point . It is bounded to the north by Moon Bay and the Huron Glacier , to the northwest by the Huntress Glacier , to the west by False Bay and to the southeast by the Bransfield Strait .
Mapping was carried out by British scientists in 1968, by Spanish scientists in 1991 and by Bulgarian scientists from 1995 to 1996. The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named the mountains in 2001 after the proto-Bulgarian sky god Tangra .
