Veliko Gradište ( Serbian - Cyrillic Велико Градиште ) is a port city on the banks of the Đerdapsees dammed on the Danube in Serbia .
Veliko Gradište is also the seat of the 344 km² municipality of the same name. The municipality has 27,000 inhabitants, of which 6,500 are in the town of Veliko Gradište and the remaining 20,500 inhabitants are spread over the 26 settlements in the municipality. In German translation, the place name means something like Großer Burgplatz ( Veliko = large , Grad = town, Gradiste = town).
geography
Veliko Gradište is located 129 km east of Belgrade , on the Đerdap main road. The municipality of Veliko Gradište borders on the municipality of Golubac in the east, on the municipality of Kučevo in the southeast, on the municipality of Malo Crniće in the southwest, on the municipality of Požarevac in the west, along the Danube in the northwest , on the municipality of Bela Crkva (and thus on the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina ) and in the north, also along the Danube, it forms the state border between Serbia and Romania . Politically, the municipality belongs to the Braničevo District .
60% of the municipality is flat, 25% of the hilly landscape and 15% of the municipality is made up of low mountain ranges. The highest point of the municipality is the Lipovačka mountain at 362 m , the lowest point is the mouth of the river Pek into the Danube at 68 m above sea level . Veliko Gradište itself is located at an altitude of 81 m above sea level.

Surroundings
In the 1990s a tributary of the Danube , which together with the Old Danube surrounded an island, was separated from the Danube. So the island disappeared, but the Srebrno jezero (Silver Lake), which is used for tourism, emerged from the side arm . The Beli Bagrem leisure facility is also located on the shores of the lake .
In the far northwest of the municipality, on the provincial border with Vojvodina , is the place Ram . There is a ferry connection across the mighty Danube between Ram and the neighboring Banatska Palanka in Vojvodina . There is also a medieval castle ruin here.
