It begins at the outer edge of the first rib and ends at the lower edge of the teres major muscle . From there it continues on the upper arm as the artery of the arm , the brachial artery . It is divided into three parts by the pectoralis minor muscle . It is the central structure of the armpit , and (inner) on its medial side extends their Vein accompanying the axillary ( axillary vein ).
Branching in humans
- Arteria thoracica superior (upper thoracic artery )
- Arteria thoracoacromialis (thoracic bone corner artery)
- Arteria thoracica lateralis (lateral thoracic artery )
- Arteria subscapularis ( subscapular artery , largest branch) with:
- Posterior circumflex artery
- Arteria circumflexa humeri anterior
Splitting at the domestic animals
- Arteria thoracica externa (external thoracic artery)
- Arteria suprascapularis (upper shoulder blade artery, originates in predators from the arteria cervicalis superficialis )
- Subscapular artery (subscapular artery), with:
- Thoracodorsal artery
- Circumflex artery caudal humerus
- Radial collateral artery
- Cranial circumflex artery
