With a total length of about 31 cm, the Venezuela Amazon is one of the medium-sized Amazons, its plumage is green, like that of almost all Amazon parrots, its neck feathers are lined with black. The forehead and cheeks are colored yellow, partly also in the forehead area. Her reins and forehead are light blue to purple blue, as is the area above the eyes. Their beak is horn-colored at the base and darkens towards the tip. The wax skin is gray, as are the feet. Like most of the other species of the genus Amazona, the Venezuelan amazon does not show any sexual dimorphism , in young birds the head and tail plumage are less intensely colored and the iris is dark brown.
Distribution and habitat
The distribution area of the Venezuela Amazon extends from Colombia east of the Andes through Venezuela , Trinidad and Tobago , Guyana , Suriname , French Guiana , eastern Ecuador , eastern Peru , northern Bolivia to Brazil in northern São Paulo .
The Venezuela Amazon lives in all kinds of forests, wetlands, savanna-like areas in tropical South America up to a height of 650 m.
Free-living specimens have appeared in some cities in Germany. In contrast to the ring-necked parakeet , however, no broods have been found in the wild. In particularly harsh winters, however, the animals can get frostbite, mostly on their feet. The photo shows an animal from the Biebrich Palace Park on the banks of the Rhine in Wiesbaden.
