Ventriculography of the left ventricle in Takotsubo cardiomyopathy

The ventriculography (of lat. Ventriculus cordis , ventricular 'or Ventriculus cerebri , cerebral ventricles') is a medical examination method. Today, the term is largely used synonymously with levocardiography ( Latin laevo , left, Greek - pathol. Καρδία, cardia or Latinized cardia , heart). This is used to diagnose wall movements and the size of the left and, more rarely, the right ventricle as part of a cardiac catheter examination . In medical history, the term was also used for other investigations.

A pigtail catheter is advanced through the aorta and aortic valve into the tip of the main left chamber . When examining the right heart, the catheter is advanced through the large inferior vena cava , through the right atrium and through the tricuspid valve into the right main chamber . During the administration of an X-ray contrast agent containing iodine, a film (12.5 images / sec.) Is created over several cardiac cycles using X-rays.

Any wall movement disorders ( hypokinesia , dyskinesia , akinesia , aneurysm ) in the systole can be assessed in the following evaluation . Furthermore, the determination of are end-diastolic and -systolischen volume by planimetry and here also on the calculation of the ejection volume (ejection volume, ejection fraction ) are possible.

Finally, a possible leakage ( insufficiency ) of the mitral valve and , to a limited extent , the tricuspid valve, can be assessed semi - quantitatively .
