Venus Versus Virus is a manga series by Atsushi Suzumi that was released in Japan from 2005 to 2008. The work can be classified into the genres of horror, shonen and fantasy and has been adapted as an anime television series , among other things .

content

Middle school student Sumire Takahana ( 鷹 花 ス ミ レ ) has the ability to see supernatural beings. One day she meets Lucia Nahashi ( 名 橋 ル チ ア ), who fights against such beings, called viruses. Lucia is part of the group Venus Vanguard, which disguised as a Gothic boutique helps people who are threatened by the monsters. The head of the group is Lucia's adoptive father Sōichirō. Sumire soon joins them and is useful with their skills too.

publication

The manga was published in Japan from June 2005 (issue 8/2005) to July 27, 2008 (issue 9/2008) in Dengeki Comic Gao! and after it was posted in Dengeki Daioh magazine at the end of February 2008 . The Media Works publishing house also brought out the chapters in eight anthologies.

The series has been published in German by Carlsen Verlag since January 2013 in a translation by John Schmitt-Weigand. Seven volumes have come out so far. There are also translations into English, French, Spanish, Italian and Chinese.

radio play

Frontier Works published an adaptation of the manga as a radio play with five chapters in October 2006 . In April 2007 a second CD followed by Lantis .

Anime

In 2007, Studio Hibari produced a twelve-part anime television series based on the manga, directed by Shinichiro Kimura . Yasutomo Yamada was responsible for the series concept . The character design was created by Yoshimi Agata and the artistic direction was with Katsuhiro Haji . The first broadcast took place from January 12 to March 30, 2007 after midnight (and thus on the previous television day ) at TBS in the Kanto region . BS-i (nationwide via satellite), KBS Kyōto in the prefecture of Kyōto and Chūbu Nippon Hōsō in the greater Nagoya area ( Chūkyō ) followed with a delay of about two weeks .

Funimation Entertainment offered the series in an English version via streaming . A German dubbing was released in 2008 by ADV Films .

The music for the series was composed by Hikaru Nanase . For the opening credits the song Bravin 'Bad Brew by Riryka was used and the credits were underlaid with Shijun no Zankoku by Yōsei Teikoku .
