Vera C. Bushfield

Vera Cahalan Bushfield (* 9. August 1889 in Miller , Hand County , South Dakota ; † 16th April 1976 in Fort Collins , Colorado ) was an American politician of the Republican Party .

Live and act

After high school, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menominee , Wisconsin . She also attended Dakota Wesleyan University and the University of Minnesota .

On October 6, 1948, she was nominated as a Republican candidate for the US Senate after her husband Harlan J. Bushfield had died a few days earlier and his seat had to be filled again. She served in the Senate for the remainder of the months her husband died before the end of his term until December 26, 1948. She then resigned; her successor was Karl Earl Mundt . Vera Bushfield died in 1976 and was buried in her native Miller.
