Vera Lossau (* 1976 in Haan ) is a German artist.

Life

Vera Lossau's artistic work is complex. Even if the focus is on sculpture, painting, drawing, video or performance are also an elementary part of her artistic work. In 2006, for example, she carried out a highly acclaimed performance at the Museum kunst palast in Düsseldorf, where she and a specially hired audience reflected on the question of the importance of publicly exhibited art, as well as the role of visitors and the question of the social position of contemporary artists. Her works are always playful but also scientifically intended reflections. It breaks with familiar norms, for example when it replaces the usual information in the displays of the Bochum subway stations with dedications to passers-by. In 2003 she carried out such an action and wrote sentences on the LCD displays of the subway stations like: “Everything is fine. Dream on. ”Or“ Slowly please. I'm in a hurry. ”She also works with such humorous irritations when she pastes wrecking balls, which are usually used to tear down dilapidated houses, with tiny mirrors or splinters of crushed ceramics and thus raises the question of destruction anew. The pears themselves have now become filigree, and the pieces that adorn them from now on have reduced the original purpose of the “wrecking balls” to absurdity. As a sculptor she works with a wide variety of materials, such as bronze, ceramics, clay, glass, metal, plaster, epoxy resin, cast resin, fluorescent tubes and fabrics.
