Veraval ( Gujarati : વેરાવળ; Hindi : वेरावल) is a port city in the Indian state of Gujarat .
The city is the administrative seat of the district Gir Somnath, which was founded on August 15, 2013 . Previously, the city was in the princely state of Junagadh and later - after Indian independence - in the Junagadh district .
At Veraval is on the south coast of the Kathiawar peninsula. The city of Junagadh is 70 km north of Veraval. Veraval has the status of a municipality ( Nagar Palika ) as a city . The national highways NH 8D and NH 8E pass Veraval. The city is connected to the Indian rail network. At the 2011 census, Veraval had about 155,000 inhabitants, with suburbs 170,000.
