purpose

The VATM was formed in December 1997 in the run-up to the liberalization of the German telecommunications market on January 1, 1998 through the merger of the Association for Telecommunications and Value Added Services (VTM) and the Association of Telecommunications Service Providers (VAT). The constituent meeting took place on January 9, 1998, at which Gerd Eickers was appointed managing director; Jürgen Grützner succeeded him in this position on January 1, 2000.

According to its own statements, the aim of the VATM is to create fair and equal opportunities for private telecommunications companies . The VATM is mainly active in lobbying and publishing.

On December 29, 2008 the VATM announced that the member companies intend to invest up to 40 billion euros in order to guarantee nationwide access to high-speed DSL. In 2011, investments will be 45 billion euros.

Members of the VATM are landline and mobile network providers as well as providers of value-added services . Associated members have no right to vote or vote in the VATM.
