About this picture

The municipality of Liebenwerda has been the superordinate administrative unit of the four cities of Bad Liebenwerda , Falkenberg / Elster , Mühlberg / Elbe and Uebigau-Wahrenbrück (all districts of Elbe-Elster ) since January 1, 2020 . Their formation was decided on March 22, 2019. The cities became local parishes of the Verbandsgemeinde.

The merger is intended to improve administrative processes and save money, while at the same time maintaining a certain degree of independence.

As the first of its kind in Brandenburg , the Liebenwerda community also serves as a pilot project for the state government. Association communities have existed in Rhineland-Palatinate since 1968 and in Saxony-Anhalt since 2009 .

Association congregation assembly

The association assembly consists of 28 members who were appointed by the city councils of the four cities of Bad Liebenwerda, Falkenberg, Mühlberg and Uebigau-Wahrenbrück. It is made up as follows:

  • Chursachsen parliamentary group ( CDU , Free Citizens): 10 seats
  • Group for strong local congregations: 5 seats
  • Democratic Alliance for Rural Areas parliamentary group: 5 seats
  • Group The Left / SPD : 4 seats
  • FDP parliamentary group : 3 seats
  • Andreas Schober (AfD): 1 seat

As a so-called “born member”, the mayor of the association is also entitled to a say and vote.

Quick, the former mayor of Falkenberg, was elected mayor of the municipality on January 29, 2020 by the association's assembly with 23 out of 28 votes. The former mayors of the other three cities became councilors and thus deputies of the mayor.
