Criminals and other Germans
Criminals and other German (original title Norwegian: Forbrytere og andre tyskere ) is a book published in June 1946 in Oslo book by Willy Brandt about his impressions in Germany after the surrender, which he between November 1945 and March 1946 as a correspondent for Norwegian newspapers at the Nuremberg trial chronicled .

After the end of the war in 1945, the freelance journalist Willy Brandt, who had fled to Norway and then Sweden in 1934 and became a Norwegian citizen in 1940 after his German expatriation in 1938 , received an assignment: he was sent to Nuremberg as an accredited press attaché to over to report the course of the Nuremberg Trials . After, for technical reasons, the immediate transmission of his newspaper reports was incomplete, incomplete and without any feedback from the Norwegian editorial team, Brandt summarized his notes on his return to Oslo and published them as a book. In August 1946 a translation into Swedish was published in Stockholm.
Edition
Parts of the first chapter and other small excerpts appeared in August 1966 shortly before the failure of the CDU-FDP government and the entry of the SPD into the grand coalition in which Brandt became Federal Foreign Minister and Deputy Federal Chancellor . In an anthology of statements by Brandt during his exile, these parts, identified only by marginal notes and references, were compiled with sections from newspaper articles and other books, some of which were first translated into German. The publisher in 1966 was the Berlin Brandt employee Günter Struve , the translator Dietrich Lutze.
A complete German translation, revised on the basis of 1966, appeared in Germany in 2007.
Defamations
In order to denigrate the SPD politician, candidate for Chancellor and later Chancellor , it was later claimed that the book was titled Germans and Other Criminals . The book served several times as an excuse to defame Brandt as a traitor .
The conservative journalist and Brandt critic Joachim Siegerist published a work in Bremen at the end of the 1980s under the title “Criminals and other Germans: Willy Brandt's Scandal Book”.
