Verbundnetz (Chile)
At present (as of May 2015) there is no nationwide network in Chile , but there are two independent network systems, the Sistema Interconectado Central (SIC) for the center of the country and the Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande (SING) for the north. In addition, there are various island networks in the south of the country , which are combined in the Sistema Eléctrico de Aysén and in the Sistema Eléctrico de Magallanes .
On April 16, 2015, the Energy Minister of Chile announced that SIC and SING should be synchronized with each other by 2017. The three-phase high-voltage transmission line (500 kV , 1.5 GVA ) to be constructed will be 580 km and 610 km long and cost an estimated US $ 700 and 850 million respectively . The Comisión Nacional de Energía had previously examined 4 different connection options (1 GW or 1,500 GW, DHÜ or HVDC ) in a study.
Sistema Interconectado Central
The SIC or CDEC-SIC ( Spanish Centro de Despacho Económico de Carga del Sistema Interconectado Central ) is the largest network in Chile. It supplies 92% of the population. The installed capacity in the SIC was 15.15 GW at the end of 2014, of which caloric power plants accounted for 7.97 GW (52.6%), hydropower plants 6.4 GW (42%) and wind farms 645.3 MW (4, 26%).
Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande
The SING or CDEC-SING (Spanish: Centro de Despacho Económico de Carga del Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande ) is the second network in Chile. The installed capacity in the SING was 4.97 GW at the end of 2014, of which 2.1 GW (42.24%) came from coal-fired power plants and 2.36 GW (47.53%) from gas-fired power plants .
Sistema Eléctrico de Aysén
The Empresa Eléctrica de Aysén SA (Edelaysen) is responsible for electricity generation and distribution in the Región de Aysén . The installed capacity of Edelaysen is 50 MW, mainly consisting of diesel and gas engines.
Sistema Eléctrico de Magallanes
The Empresa Electrica de Magallanes SA (EDELMAG) is in the Magallanes responsible for power generation and distribution. The company operates distribution networks in Punta Arenas , Puerto Natales , Porvenir and Puerto Williams . The installed capacity of EDELMAG is 98.775 MW (or 101 MW), consisting of diesel and gas engines.
