The Medal of Merit for the volunteers of the Italian-Ethiopian War 1935-1936 ( it. Medaglia di benemerenza per i volontari della Campagna in Africa Orientale 1935-1936 ) was an award of the Kingdom of Italy , which on October 26, 1939 by decree no King Victor Emmanuel III for the volunteer participants of the Italo-Ethiopian War .

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze medal shows the right-facing head bust of the goddess Italia on its obverse, surrounded by the inscription PER L´ITALIA (For Italy). The lapel , on the other hand, shows a naked man in the middle, facing the sky, holding a round Roman shield in his left hand and a sword pointing outwards in his right hand. Behind his right arm, a mother is shown looking up at his son, who clasps his arm. This symbolism is surrounded by the inscription .VOLONTARI.DI.GVERRA.AOI . (Volunteers of the war in East Africa). The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest of the borrower on a malino-red ribbon, in the middle of which a blue-black-blue-black-blue central stripe is woven.
