Order of Merit for Science and Art (Anhalt)
The Order of Merit for Science and Art was founded on July 30, 1873 by Duke Friedrich I of Anhalt and was awarded to nationals and foreigners as recognition and reward for excellent and special achievements in the field of science and art .
Order classes
Initially donated in just one class, the order was expanded to include two classes in 1912.

Order decoration
The medal of the 1st model (1873-1905) is a highly oval bronze gold-plated medal , which is surrounded by 24 pointed rays and carried by a crown . In the center the letter F (Friedrich) in Gothic script and below it in the semicircle the inscription HERZOG VON ANHALT . On the back is the four-line inscription FOR SCIENCE AND ART , which is enclosed by a laurel wreath open at the top and tied at the bottom .
The 2nd model (1905–1918) is gilded bronze or made of silver (III. Class) and instead of rays is enclosed by a thick laurel wreath. On the reverse the Anhalt coat of arms with the inscription FÜR WISSENSCHAFT UND KUNST .
Carrying method
Originally worn on the ribbon on the left side of the chest, after the expansion in 1905, the 1st class was created by men as a neck medal and by women with a bow on the left shoulder. The II. And III. Class decorated on the ribbon on the left side of the chest.
Others
The insignia had to be returned after the owner's death.
