history

Verdinaso party flag

In 1931 Joris Van Severen founded the Verdinaso as a split from the Flemish front party . The association sought to unite the Netherlands , Luxembourg and Flanders to form a "Greater Dutch Empire". The organization was strongly oriented towards Italian fascism and was rather hostile towards Germany . However, over the course of the decade, the Verdinaso changed its orientation towards a Belgian nationalism . In terms of economic policy , the aim was corporatism inspired by Catholic social teaching . Anti-Semitism and anti-capitalism were further ideological pillars of the association. The party founder Joris van Severen was executed in 1940 because he was suspected of spying for Nazi Germany . The now leaderless Verdinaso was forced to join the Flemish National Association. In total, Verdinaso, including the Militant Order , probably never had more than 5,000 members.
